In response, the young mothers came together to create a safe space where they could share experiences, find solidarity, and begin to act. What started as informal listening circles soon grew into organized initiatives, with members leading campaigns in their communities to demand dignity, respect, and access to maternal health services. Their peer-driven advocacy created confidence among young mothers to visit clinics, return to school, and pursue economic opportunities.
As the group expanded, MYM evolved into a community-based organization committed to transforming pain into purpose. From an initial membership of 50 mothers, the group has grown to reach hundreds, offering skills training, mentorship, and safe spaces for healing and empowerment. Over time, MYM has developed structured programs to build the capacities of young mothers in leadership, business, and self-reliance. Today, the organization continues to champion education, economic independence, and social inclusion for adolescent and young mothers across Mombasa, with a vision of ensuring no young mother is left behind.
